The Benefits and Magic of Thai Yoga Massage

Thai yoga massage includes assisted stretching and carefully applied pressure.

In a way, Thai Yoga Massage discovered me.

I had been teaching yoga and pilates for a while, but I’ve always been excited to learn new techniques and ways to build my practice.

Thai Yoga Massage found me when I needed it.

And pretty quickly, I realized that it was a missing puzzle piece for a lot of people.

I’ve continued to study this amazing practice, and now I’m so glad to be able to bring it to others.

What Is Thai Yoga Massage?

Thai Yoga Massage is an ancient practice that combines elements of yoga, acupressure and massage to help bring multiple benefits.

I like to call it “the lazy man’s yoga,” but it really is an impactful and healing form of bodywork.

Thai Yoga Massage or Thai Massage includes assisted stretching, therapeutic massage and pressure applied to your body’s energy lines and pressure points.

All of this combines to offer mind, body and soul benefits.

Sounds pretty dreamy, right?

Yoga Meets Massage

Although Thai Yoga Massage is at least 1,000 years old, many people haven’t heard of it.

But definitely don’t fear the unknown here. My clients include men and women, adults of every age, and those who are into intense athletics, to those whose favorite exercise is a gentle walk.

What I love about Thai Yoga Massage is that it’s adaptable, accessible, and super relaxing.

Many of my clients have told me that they didn't know this kind of massage existed, but it’s the massage they've always wanted.

Benefits of Thai Yoga Massage

There are so many benefits of Thai Yoga Massage, and it impacts the body in a lot of almost magical ways.

First, Thai Yoga Massage can bring a sense of deep relaxation and stress relief.

Physically, it can relieve muscle pain and tension.

Plus, Thai Yoga Massage is believed to bring balance to the body.

If you are familiar with Yoga, you may have heard of prana, the Sanskrit word for life-giving force. Prana can also be thought of as energy in and around the body.

Ideally, you want that energy moving, bringing nourishment and life to every muscle and organ, each bit of tissue and each system of the body.

Thai Yoga Massage is meant to move prana and open your body’s energy pathways, which can bring a sense of balance and harmony.

Experiencing this myself is how I knew that Thai Yoga Massage was something I wanted to pursue, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite ways to help people improve their health and wellbeing.

Who is Thai Yoga Massage For?

Don’t be confused by the name - you do not have to be a super-flexible, die-hard yogi to benefit from Thai Yoga Massage.

This bodywork is really meant for anyone dealing with muscle tension, stress, sore muscles after exercise, or discomfort.

Thai Yoga Massage also has so many mental and spiritual benefits.

Our bodies hold on to a lot - trauma, fear, and other negative emotions can build up in our tissues, leaving us feeling stuck or with mystery discomfort that we can’t seem to shake.

What to Expect During Thai Yoga Massage

Thai Massage is a bit different from what we think of as traditional massage. It involves more sinking into the muscles, and less gliding over them.

We also use techniques called thumbing and palming - essentially using the thumbs and palms to apply carefully directed pressure.

You remain fully dressed during Thai Yoga Massage. Clients should dress in comfortable clothes they can stretch in, similar to what they would wear during a gentle yoga class.

Thai Massage is definitely a form of skilled bodywork - and is absolutely not THAT kind of massage.

Expect assisting stretching, acupressure and therapeutic massage only.

You may also want to bring a sweater and socks to a Thai Yoga Massage appointment, because the body tends to cool down as it relaxes.

Finally, each person is unique, so there’s space for communication and we can always focus on areas that are feeling stressed or like they need TLC.

As a practitioner, I never take it personally if a certain technique isn’t working for someone on a given day. Just let me know.

Your Thai Yoga Massage is about YOU. I want you to feel your best.
